Casey Stars Launch at Casey Stadium

February 8, 2019

Stage two of the Casey Stadium redevelopment is soon to be completed and will boast five state of the art indoor cricket courts, with the venue now to be home to the Casey Stars. The establishment of the club comes on the back of a merger with the Sharks Indoor Sports Club which will see the Casey Stars instantly field teams in the Superleague (State Competition) and National Indoor Cricket League. The new club will use Casey Stadium as its home venue for training and games, providing a unique opportunity to play high level indoor cricket at the best facility in the country.

While the establishment of the Casey Stars was a long-term plan, a unique opportunity existed to partner with the Sharks Indoor Sports Club. The Sharks are an established and respected club with teams in the State and National Leagues however, had used numerous venues in recent years as their home. As a result of using multiple venues, the Sharks didn’t have a domestic competition feeding the club, so discussions started with the ONE Casey team.

Casey Stadia Manager Ian Jenkins commented “while we’re thrilled to be announcing the establishment of the Stars and launching the brand, we’re very keen to acknowledge the Sharks history”. Sharks President James Dornan said, “the recognition of the history was instrumental in the members voting to become the Stars”, a vote which proved to be unanimous at a recent extraordinary general meeting. The Sharks history will be acknowledged in a variety of ways including displaying the Sharks name on the uniform with establishment date and naming of prestigious club awards after long serving Sharks members.

Existing partnerships have also remained in place and the club would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of Bobo’s Diner in Frankston and Porter Tax Solutions. Both partners will appear on new club playing uniforms and Mr Dornan said how appreciative the club was for supporting the move to the new brand.

The Casey Stars have adopted black and green as the club’s colours; with the new logo being revealed to members recently. Uniform designs have been developed and will be unveiled to the public in the coming weeks. Mr Dornan said, “uniform concepts were shared with existing members at the EGM and received extremely positive feedback”.

The establishment of the Casey Stars will see Casey Stadium offer a complete pathway from domestic to elite indoor cricket. Mr Jenkins said he was thrilled to have the full pathway in place from the start and the Stars would play a big role in attracting players to the sport.

With the resources of ONE Casey behind the club, combined with the start of the art facilities at Casey Stadium; the Stars are uniquely placed to offer a standard never seen before. The Stars will now have a strong focus on complimenting their existing teams with the establishment of women’s teams.

Domestic Indoor Cricket competitions and junior programs are set to launch at Casey Stadium this month in what will be a massive year for the sport within Casey. Cricket Australia recently announced Casey Stadium will host the 2019 National Indoor Cricket Championships. The Championships will be held between June 29 and July 6 and highlights the quality of the facilities at Casey Stadium.
